This morning, News 12 is learning that Nassau County cannot force its union workers into a new health plan, until both sides can agree on how much workers will contribute

This is a small win for the union workers as the plan to switch their health care has been blocked for the time being, according to a new ruling by a state supreme court judge.

Court documents say CSEA workers and the county need to keep benefits the same, until an agreement is made. The ruling also says the county must cover premium costs while they work toward an agreement.

As News 12 has reported, the health care plan in the current CSEA contract for Nassau workers will be discontinued at the end of the year.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman recently appeared on News 12's Power & Politics addressing the issue.

"First of all, I love our workers and they do a great job. I want quality health care for our workers. But every business, every individual understands they must contribute for their health care. We're asking for a small contribution from our union workers, as have the CSEA workers in the state," says Blakeman.

The county says it's been willing to negotiate a new contract for the last seven months.
