Suspect faces murder charges in 2022 Fairfield shooting that killed 15‑year‑old

Through investigating Detectives identified a suspect who was 16-years-old at the time of the incident and applied for an arrest warrant.

The Fairfield Police Department has made an arrest connected to a shooting that led to the death of 15‑year‑old Zion Burton.

Through their investigation, detectives identified a suspect who was 16 years old at the time of the incident and applied for an arrest warrant.

They served the arrest warrant on April 3 at the Manson Youth Correctional Institution in Cheshire, Connecticut, where the suspect was being held on unrelated charges.

The suspect has been charged with murder, assault in the first degree, and carrying a pistol without a permit.

On July 9, 2022, Fairfield police responded to reports of multiple gunshots at a birthday party at a banquet hall at Calvin United Church of Christ along Kings Highway East.

The two were taken to area hospitals; Zion Burton later died from his injuries.

The case is currently being handled in juvenile court but is set to be transferred to adult
