Resident injured while rescuing dogs from house fire in Franklin Township

A resident was injured Saturday while evacuating dogs from a house fire in Franklin Township, Somerset County, authorities said.

Police responded at about 12:10 p.m. to a report of a fire at a home in the 100 block of Irvington Avenue, according to Franklin Township Police. Officers who responded to the scene encountered heavy smoke.

Multiple agencies responded and extinguished the fire.

The injured resident was taken to a hospital by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital EMS.

“Thanks to the quick response and coordinated efforts of our police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel, the fire was extinguished and further injuries were prevented,” Public Safety Director Lloyd Fredericks said in a statement. “We also commend the resident’s actions in ensuring the safety of their pets."
