Two women from Astoria are facing charges after police say they attempted to steal merchandise from a Macy’s store in Manhasset and assaulted a retail employee during the confrontation.
According to detectives, the incident happened Saturday afternoon, April 18, around 3 p.m. Police say 21-year-old Jaclyn Grillo and her mother, 60-year-old Diane Butrico, entered the Macy’s at 1100 Northern Boulevard and selected several items, concealing them inside a reusable bag. Investigators say the pair then attempted to leave the store without paying.
Store asset protection employees say they confronted Grillo as she passed all points of purchase. During the encounter, police allege Grillo threatened and shoved an employee to the ground, causing an injury to the worker’s arm. Both women were taken into custody at the scene.
Grillo is charged with robbery and assault on a retail worker and was arraigned on Sunday in Hempstead.
Butrico is charged with criminal facilitation and petit larceny and was issued a desk appearance ticket to appear in court on April 29.
