Heavy smoke pours over Brownsville during overnight fire on Chester Street

Firefighters battled a large overnight fire at a building on Chester Street in Brownsville that sent heavy smoke pouring into the sky.

FDNY says the fire broke out just before 2:40 a.m. Thursday at 123 Chester Ave., between Pitkin and Sutter avenues.

Video recorded from a distance shows thick smoke rising over the neighborhood as fire trucks rushed to the scene.

Officials say the fire started on the second floor before spreading into part of the roof area. The large response brought dozens of firefighters and EMS personnel to the scene.

FDNY says 46 units and 141 fire and EMS personnel responded. The fire was brought under control around 3:28 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
