Norwalk police say five people were hospitalized this afternoon after a multiple-vehicle crash on North Avenue. The accident happened near the intersection with France Street, where fire officials say the driver of a Honda Pilot likely blacked out behind the wheel. They say a passenger apparently tried to take control, prompting the SUV to hit a van and another car. Authorities say there were six people inside the Pilot, as well as two people and a baby inside the van. Sources say the third car was not badly damaged. Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to remove both drivers, who were listed in serious condition at Norwalk Hospital. There is no word on the conditions of the other victims taken there for treatment. To watch extended footage from the scene, click on News 12 Extra on Optimum TV channel 612.
