A record 54 million people are expected to be traveling this Thanksgiving, according to AAA.
AAA estimates about 2.5 million people per day will travel over the busy holiday weekend.
They say the amount of travelers this year will shatter previous records.
Thanksgiving is the busiest travel time of the year because it's condensed into one week.
Officials say Thanksgiving travel typically starts on Tuesday and goes through next week.
Out of the 30.6 million people who will travel to their destination this week, 48.5 million will travel 50 miles or more this year. That’s a 5% increase from last year.
