Authorities: 4 men charged in series of ATM thefts statewide

Four Venezuelan citizens are facing charges in connection to a series of ATM thefts that happened last August, the U.S. Attorney for Connecticut said Monday.

Federal prosecutors say the men stole a total $529,220 through a "jackpotting" scheme. The men are accused of using specialized hardware and malware which forces an ATM to dispense its stored money.

Authorities allege that the group accessed ATMs at rest stops along in Fairfield, Branford, Madison and Darien as well as ATMs in Milford and Ansonia between Aug. 8 and Aug. 18

The men were arrested on June 25 and charged with conspiracy and interstate transportation of stolen property.
