An anonymous donor has stepped in to help the loved ones of two slain NYPD detectives.
Executives with "Sing Tao Newspaper New York" met with the families of Detectives Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos on Friday. The families will each receive a $500,000 donation from a benefactor in Hong Kong, who wished to remain anonymous.
A representative from the PBA spoke on behalf of the families.
"The Chinese community has reached out with unimaginable resources," said PBA Financial Secretary John Giangrasso. "I would like to say thank you to them for taking care of these two wonderful families."
Giangrasso went on to say that the $500,000 for Ramos' family will go to the education fund set up for his children. Liu's money will be given to his father. For both families, the total sum will be given over a five-year span, at $100,000 per year.
The officers were shot and killed while on duty in Brooklyn last month.
