The floral industry is another sector that has been uprooted by the pandemic.
City Line Florist in Trumbull is a family business that has been around for more than a century. It remains open for curbside pickup and no-contact deliveries.
The shop transitioned to online and phone orders only and is working with a skeleton crew and following safety guidelines.
The owner says initially, they scrambled to even get flowers, because wholesalers and distributors shut down. City Line is now going directly through the growers to keep their inventory up for customers.
But the Mother's Day holiday may help the industry make a comeback. City Line says its sales for Mother's Day are way up.
"I've been in the industry my whole life and I've never seen a holiday like this. If my grandpa were here, he'd say it's like the good ol' days in the floral industry," said marketing manager Nicole Palazzo.
Owner Sue Palazzo says the outlook after this holiday is fuzzy. Summer sales tend to be driven by weddings, which are on hold for the near future.
The family says it is optimistic flowers will help people power through the pandemic.
