A barn builder who donated a cover to one of Connecticut's many historic bridges says he's proud of the work he and his son have accomplished 10 years later.
The covered bridge is in Brooklyn, Connecticut and stretches across Blackwell's Brook on Fitzgerald Road.
Ken Sigfridson started Sigfridson's Wood products in 1979 and built and designed custom posts and beam buildings of all kinds.
In 2010, Brooklyn town officials decided to replace the Fitzgerald Road covered bridge and Sigfridson offered to cover it.
"The powers that be thought that was a great idea, the first selectmen thought it was a great idea, so we donated the covered portion of the bridge to the town of Brooklyn," Sigfridson says.
Fast-forward 10 years later, and the covered bridge on Fitzgerald Road is standing stronger than ever.
"The bridge is one of numerous truss designs that they used for covered Bridges all over New England. This bridge was constructed with Howe trusses, which are common for a bridge this length. It was relatively easy construction it's constructed of oak," Sigfridson says.
Sigfridson says his son Evan now runs the business, and that he's proud of his son's work and the work on the bridge.
"Not everything I've built has been aesthetically pleasing or perfect, but I am certainly happy with the bridge."
