A Bronx man has become the very first FDNY paramedic in the Explorer program, which is run by the Greater New York Councils of the Boy Scouts of America.
After completing the program, Zarhar Washington landed a job working for the FDNY as an EMT in the Bronx. He was eventually promoted to paramedic.
In addition to fire and emergency services, the Explorer program also covers law enforcement and business for males and females ages 14 to 20.
There are currently 20 FDNY Explorer graduates working for the department throughout the city.
