Sen. Richard Blumenthal is pushing for extra security at southwestern Connecticut train stations.

He says Metro-North trains could be a prime target for terrorists, and that workers need more training to be on the lookout for suspicious activity.

The Democratic senator says trains carry nearly 300,000 people a day into New York City. He is calling on the Transportation Security Administration to add specialized "VIPR" security teams and explosives experts to larger Metro-North stations. 

In 2007, the TSA was required to implement such measures. Earlier this month, the TSA administrator told Congress they are making "significant progress" toward finally implementing them.

Sen. Blumenthal also wants background checks for workers.
