Sen. Richard Blumenthal says Sunday's snowstorm underscores a need for dedicating more resources to the National Weather Service.
"This snowstorm emphasizes the importance of restoring the scientist and equipment and infrastructure that we've lost in our weather predicting and forecasting through the National Weather Service over the last four years. We need to replenish the scientists who do the critical judgments necessary for accurate weather forecasting vital to our economy, our environment and our quality of life," Blumenthal said.
Blumenthal added it could take months or even years to rebuild critical infrastructure, underscoring the urgency for starting that process now.
