The Stamford bomb squad and Westport Police Department were called to the old Westport residence of former FBI director James Comey Thursday after the new owners received a suspicious package addressed to the former director, police say.
The incident happened Thursday on Westway Road around 9:15 a.m. at the previous home of the former director, Westport police spokeswoman Lt. Jillian Cabana says.
The package was received by the current owners but was addressed to the former FBI director, and the homeowners notified police as a precaution.
Police closed off a road, and a bomb sniffing dog was brought in along with the FBI.
Law enforcement officials then determined the package was not only harmless, but was actually a gift. The sender apparently did not know Comey had moved two years ago.
