The aunt of 16-year-old Trinity Rogers spoke publicly for the first time Tuesday about the pain of losing her to suicide in April 2022.
"It was a moment that changed our lives forever," said Kelly Minor, of Bridgeport. "I will always remember getting the news and screaming to my husband, 'Oh, my God, no! Oh, my God."
Trinity took her own life in the family's home on the East Side of Bridgeport, leaving her loved ones shattered, the aunt said.
"We're speaking out to promote awareness and prevention -- in Trinity's memory," Kelly said.
Marc Lehman is a licensed family therapist based in Avon, Connecticut, who deals with teen suicide on a regular basis.
"What we find is that many parents lecture to their kids, but are not, in fact, listening to them," Lehman said.
Parents need to find out what's going on in their kids' lives by listening and educating themselves about the signs and risk factors of suicidal behavior, Lehman said.
