A Bridgeport police officer is recovering after crashing during a chase Wednesday.
Cewell Sharpe, 33, allegedly took off after police pulled him over for rolling through a stop sign. Once he started to slow down, police say he stepped on the gas. In a matter of seconds, the chase ended on South Frontage Road in front of the on-ramp to I-95.
Police say Sharpe was getting off the Route 25/8 connector when he hit the brakes, immediately forcing the officer following him to collide into the vehicle.
According to police, Sharpe has faced charges for larceny and possession of narcotics. Officials confirmed Sharpe is also a possible suspect in a homicide case. They believe that is the reason why he initially fled.
City officials are commending the work of the police department in handling the case.
Police say the officer involved in the chase suffered minor injuries and is expected to be OK.
