Bridgeport police are warning the public about an IRS scam today.
Police say they've gotten hundreds of complaints in the last few weeks.
One woman says she was told she owed more than $2,000 in back taxes, and was threatened that she'd have to go to jail if she didn't pay immediately. She says she knew it was a scam, but is worried about other seniors who may fall for it.
Officials say the IRS will never contact you over the phone, instead they send official mail.
If you do get a call that you suspect is from a scammer, you're asked to hang up and report it to police.
