A rally in Bridgeport Saturday supported efforts to get federal dollars to keep WPCA bills from going up.
Councilwoman Maria Pereira says the City Council is set to vote Monday on a $395 million bond for upgrades to the city's west side sewage treatment plant.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal says federal money should be set aside, adding his voice to a chorus of calls for to help offset possible rate hikes from the Water Pollution Control Authority.
Councilman Ernie Newton tells News 12 the city can't wait the six months or longer, and says it could take for federal funding to become available.
Newton says, "the WPCA upgrades must be done immediately, otherwise a potential plant failure could drive rates up on their own."
