The Bridgeport Rescue Mission announced Saturday that the old Astoria Park nursing home will soon be home to the rescue mission’s community care center.
The nursing home on Park Avenue is a massive facility. Members of the mission say the expansion will enable the organization to expand its addiction recovery services to men, women and food services to the community.
The Bridgeport Rescue Mission is known for its efforts in fighting poverty by providing vital services to men, women and children dealing with hunger and homelessness.
Executive Director Terry Wilcox says the organization will purchase the facility at the end of the month. State and local leaders joined him Saturday for a tour of the building.
The nonprofit tells News 12 Connecticut that the purchase of the 62,000 square-foot facility is thanks to donations from longtime supporters and local businesses.
