Bridgeport resident Lakesha Stines has been named “Black Female Entrepreneur of the Year” by The State Versus Us magazine.

She received the honor for creating a device designed to prevent drunken driving.

She developed a steering-wheel system that detects alcohol in sweat from your hands and prevents a car from starting if you’re drunk.

"I've heard people say 'when I drink I drive better.' That's just not so. You're drunk, you're not in your right mind. And people are going around and hitting people and killing them, you know, it's just senseless,” says Stines. “Peoples' lives are taken way too soon because you want to do what you want to do, which is against the law and I want that to stop."

Stines says she has received a patent for her system but needs help marketing it.
