Another broken elevator at a Bridgeport housing complex left some disabled residents trapped in their apartments.
On his good days, retired electrician Alfredo Delgado enjoys playing music in his third-floor apartment on Wheeler Avenue. But the disabled U.S. Army veteran says his life hit a sour note back in July when the only elevator in the Sullivan Apartments broke down.
Disabled residents say they were not able to go food shopping or get to medical appointments.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal says the building's owner is in violation of his contract with the federal government due to the broken elevator and must get it fixed, or face a possible fine.
A spokesman for the landlord apologized for the inconvenience and said the elevator will be fixed soon.
Delgado thanked News 12 Connecticut for putting pressure on local, state and federal officials to get his problem solved.
Mayor Joe Ganim says the city is pushing property owners to replace elevators in buildings constructed before 1980, because it's hard to get replacement parts for older elevators.
News 12 has investigated 18 broken elevators over the past several years in Bridgeport with many of them being fixed after news reports.
