A ceremony was held in Bridgeport today to mark the 25th anniversary of the state's deadliest construction accident.
Twenty-eight people were killed and others were wounded at L'Ambiance Plaza on April 23, 1987 when a partially constructed building collapsed.
The ceremony featured several guest speakers including Mayor Bill Finch, who recalled memories of that day and the immediate response to the accident.
A wreath ceremony was held outside the building, where a fireman's bell was rung 28 times and the names of each of the victims were read aloud.
The ceremony concluded with a remembrance Mass at the cathedral of St. Augustine.
Mourners say the anniversary is among their most important traditions now because they serve as a reminder for future generations.
