State police are investigating a chase and subsequent crash that sent a state trooper to the hospital Wednesday night.
Police say the entire incident began when troopers pulled over a car on Route 7 due to a vehicle violation. At that point, police say the car then took off onto I-95 north. Troopers then began the chase.
An off-duty trooper, Michael Trotman, later heard the chase approaching and tried to join the pursuit. The trooper lost control of his car and hit four other vehicles.
Police stopped the chase after a period of time for fear it would result in further accidents. The search continues for the suspects, but their car turned up early Thursday morning engulfed in flames on a Norwalk street.
State police say the driver could face several charges from the entire incident.
Trotman is being treated at Bridgeport Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
