A popular volunteer from Bridgeport has learned that the gift of giving can sometimes find its way back to you.
April Barron says she was devastated last month when a fire gutted her Exeter Street home. She says the contents of her home were completely destroyed, and she was under-insured.
The single mother is well-acquainted with situations that require a lot of work: when the homeless need meals, she can be found under the John Street bridge volunteering her time. And every year when children head back to school, she helps raise money and organizes a backpack drive so kids in need get school supplies.
The community she graciously serves has come together to repay her. After the fire at her home, people began raising money and volunteering manpower to renovate her new home. She's gotten help from Home Depot, and even Mayor Bill Finch.
