Tax Free Week began Sunday all across the state of Connecticut.
Many residents are taking advantage of the nearly 6.5 percent discount that Tax Free Week gives shoppers. The state sales tax is waived this week for most clothing and footwear under $100.
Grover Norquist, the president of Americans for Tax Reform, fights against taxation, and believes the sales week should be a year-round occasion.
"One thing states do to try and mask tax reforms is pick a week where they don't have sales tax. It would be better to cut sales tax all the time," he says.
Officials say Tax Free Week is used to compete with states like New Jersey that don't have a sales tax for clothing year-round.
The discounted shopping week concludes Saturday.
