Cooling centers open as intense heat continues across Connecticut

Many cooling centers opened Tuesday as high temperatures continued across Connecticut.
The Bigelow Center for Senior Activities in Fairfield served as a cooling center until 4 p.m. The center on Mona Terrace can accommodate 15 to 25 people at a time.
Masks must be worn upon entering the building, but you can take them off once you sit down.
The Fairfield Police Department also served as a cooling station.
Bridgeport’s public library branches and senior centers served as cooling stations during regular business hours. This includes the Downtown, Black Rock, East Side, and North branches.
The senior centers serving as cooling stations include the Eisenhower, Black Rock, Ella Jackson, and North End. They were open until 3 p.m.
The Main Library and South Norwalk Library branches in Norwalk served as cooling centers until 5:30 p.m.
The Norwalk Police Department's community room will be open 24 hours as well.
Masks are required in the Norwalk locations and you must social distance from those not in your household.
