Police in Westport are investigating reports that a man tried to lure two young girls into his car Sunday.
Police say the man pulled over on South Compo Road near Park Lane and asked the two young girls if they wanted to get in his car. According to police, they said no and ran away.
A complaint about a man driving an older navy-blue box-style vehicle in the neighborhood may be linked to the incident, police say.
Parents in Westport say the incident has put them on alert.
?The fact is these two girls knew enough not to [get in the car], but the next child may not,? says one parent.
The suspect is a white male in his 50s or 60s with unkempt hair, police say.
Westport police are encouraging parents to tell their children what to do if approached by a stranger.
?Parents need to speak with their children and follow the example of [what] the two young females did that particular day,? says Westport Police Lt. Thomas Casimiro. ?They immediately said no, ran away - contacted a family friend or parent to tell them about the incident.?
Police are asking everyone in the community to call them immediately at 341-6000 if they see something suspicious.
