Many churches in Bridgeport paid special tribute Sunday to the nine victims of the South Carolina church shooting.
Pastor Hopeton Scott at First Baptist Church led his congregation in a special prayer for the families of the victims.
Scott says the massacre brings to light several different points, but most notably that racism continues to plague American society.
Parishioners say they were changed forever by the horrifying acts of the suspected gunman, Dylann Roof, and they will continue to pray for the families of those slain.
Scott is calling for a redoubling of efforts to eradicate racism.
"Even though we have made lots of strides in terms of race relations, we still have a long way to go," Scott says. "The journey has not ended."
