The Connecticut House of Representatives passed a bill Thursday that aims to crack down on sex offenders in cyberspace.
House Speaker Jim Amann announced the bill Thursday that would extend Megan's Law to the Internet. Megan's Law requires sex offenders register their physical address with the state. The bill would also require offenders register their e-mail addresses, instant message addresses and other Internet accounts with the Department of Public Safety.
The bill would also make it a crime for sex offenders to misrepresent their age on the Internet to entice a minor into having sex.
"This bill will bring us closer to finding the bad guys who think the Internet offers a safe haven," Amann said.
The chief state's attorney is backing the expansion of Megan's Law and so is the popular social networking Web site Myspace.com.
