Two businessmen accused of scamming homeowners in Florida out of hundreds of thousands of dollars were in a courtroom Thursday after being arrested by Milford police.
Investigators say the suspects took more than $500,000 from about 100 homeowners by promising to do work on their roofs, and may have intended to do the same in Connecticut. They say 45-year-old Carlton Dunko and 36-year-old Frank Pureber left the Tampa area around the beginning of the year and opened a new business in Milford called CTST Construction.
Authorities from Florida say Dunko and Pureber targeted areas previously hit by significant storms. They say the suspects then took insurance money but never had the work done.
Both appeared before a judge and waived their extradition hearing. They will be transferred back to Florida, where they have been charged with insurance fraud.
Detectives in Connecticut are still determining if there are any victims in the area.
