? Bridgeport Police Chief Bryan Norwood says he is considering cutting some specialized units that focus on drug dealing and weapons in the city.
The chief says the cuts are in response to Mayor Bill Finch?s order to cut overtime expenses in half. The traffic division has already been disbanded, and the narcotics squad, K-9 unit and mounted horse unit may also get the ax.
Norwood says he doesn?t want to make the cuts but has no choice. The chief has not yet named additional divisions for the chopping block, but he says he?s trying to choose cuts that will have the minimal impact on public safety and quality of life in Bridgeport.
