Seventeen people involved in a contraband smuggling scheme at Rikers Island have been indicted, according to Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark.
Those charged include corrections officers, inmates and civilians.
The defendants are charged in four indictments, with a total of 84 counts, including bribery, bribe receiving, promoting prison contraband, attempted possession and sale of controlled substances and conspiracy.
At the center of the investigation is Correction Officer Kevin McCoy, who allegedly received bribes totaling at least $10,000.
According to the Department of Investigation, the arrests are the largest contraband smuggling takedown in more than a decade.
