A Danbury man is being hailed as a hero after saving a family from a fire over the weekend.
Anthony Petrella says when he heard about a fire on Pond Ridge Road Sunday morning, he ran across the street to check if everyone was OK.
But Petrella arrived to see plumes of smoke, so he entered the home shouting that there was a fire. He says he was able to get a man, woman and their three young children out of the home.
He then went back in to rescue Mickey, the family's dog.
"Our neighborhood is very close and very tight, and I really think that anyone who’s put in that situation would have dome the same thing," says Petrella. "I didn't do anything special by any means."
No one was hurt in the fire.
The Danbury Fire Department is still trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
