A candidate for the Connecticut House seat in Seymour and Beacon Falls is apologizing for a year-old, profanity-filled Facebook post aimed at his neighbors.
Democrat Chris Bowen says the controversy is retaliation because he commented on a fellow politician stepping down, over a separate Facebook post.
"An attempt to be funny obviously went flat," Bowen said. "It's not what I think of my neighbors."
Bowen says he was blowing off steam as a private citizen.
"It was an attempt to be humorous," he said. "I thought my sarcasm had gone through."
Connecticut Republican Party Chair, J.R. Romano responded saying, "As an adult, posting that, about dogs? To me it shows a lack of maturity, responsibility."
Bowen says the post showing up now, one year after it was posted, is retribution. Earlier this week, he weighed in after a fellow town politician resigned.
Seymour Finance Board member Paul Wetowitz resigned after posting a racially insensitive meme on Facebook.

Connecticut Democratic party executive director Jacqueline Kozin said in a statement: "(We) don't condone offensive language. Christopher Bowen has apologized, which is more than we can say for Donald Trump and his Connecticut supporters, who have posted racist, sexist and otherwise offensive messages."
Bowen says he wants to make amends with his neighbors.
"I just say, reach out, talk to me. I'll be glad to have a conversation," Bowen said.
