As parents around the state get ready to send their children back to school, doctors are urging them to make sure their kids get checkups and have up-to-date vaccinations.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics website, children returning to school are required to have certain vaccinations.
Parents can check in with their school district's office or pediatrician to find out what their child may need.
A nurse at the Stratford Department of Health says children going into kindergarten, seventh and 10th grades need a mandatory physical before they start school.
Norwalk Pediatrician Dr. Aniqa Anwar says her office is taking extra bookings to help accommodate students.
Along with vaccines and checkups, pediatricians say it's important for children to receive a wellness exam every year.
During the wellness checkup, doctors may also check a child's eyesight because they say vision problems could impact education and development.
