Domestic violence survivors and their supporters gathered at a candlelight vigil Thursday evening in Greenwich.
The vigil was held at the YWCA during Domestic Violence Awareness month.
The event was planned for months, but comes after a firestorm of controversy for New York Giants kicker Josh Brown. The National Football League said Thursday that it is reviewing documents in which Brown admits to repeatedly abusing his wife. The admission was contained in a newly released police file related to Brown's arrest in a domestic violence incident in 2015. The NFL suspended Brown for just one game for that incident, but a spokesman says the league was unaware of the admission of other violent incidents when it issued that suspension.
The NFL came under intense scrutiny and pledged a zero-tolerance policy toward domestic violence following incidents with star players Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson in 2014.
Late Thursday, the Giants announced Brown did not leave with the team for its game in London this Sunday.
Advocates at the Greenwich event say they hope the news about Brown reminds other people that there's still work to do in the fight against domestic violence.
