Stratford is getting help from the federal government to clean up sites with serious environmental contamination.

The Environmental Protection Agency visited Stratford Monday to talk about contamination at the Raymark Industries Superfund Site.

Raymark was a manufacturer of automotive parts until 1989, but waste from the facility was disposed of at many locations in Stratford, including Raymark Memorial Field.

The EPA has made Stratford one of the two top priorities in New England to renovate and remediate.

The EPA says it will consolidate toxic waste, cap it safely and talk to the community while re-developing the site.

The project will begin this summer, when crews will build a barrier and roadway to allow trucks to haul waste to a central location.

The entire process is expected from three to five years.
