Evictions in Connecticut have been put on hold for another several weeks as the state rolls out a rental assistance program due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The hold will be a big relief for tenants who may have been at risk, but that doesn't mean they will not owe money back to landlords.
The state will be giving out millions in rent assistance payments, but advocates say the program does not have enough funding.
Advocate Erin Kemple says other states have used more federal funding for renters. She says she worries next month, people will lose their homes.
Norwalk property owner Jimmy Tsilfides tells News 12 he is concerned about not being able to pay the money owed on mortgages.
He says while the state extends the eviction moratorium, not all lenders are following suit.
Some landlords belive halting evictions violates the state Constitution and have filed a lawsuit.
