A former Milford umpire accused of trying to molest his niece was sentenced to 12 years in prison Wednesday.

Thomas Kotos, 52, of Milford, was babysitting the 8-year-old Bridgeport girl in the summer of 2005 when her parents say he attempted to molest her on multiple occasions. The parents say they trusted Kotos, who had been a well-liked little league umpire at one time.

Kotos pleaded guilty to risk of injury to a minor after his arrest in March of 2006.

The judge ruled Kotos? sentence will be suspended after 18 months. He will be on probation for 35 years and will be registered as a sex offender.
