The national unemployment rate jumped to more than 7 percent last month, leaving many people out of work and searching for jobs.
With few openings available, job search expert Melanie Szlucha says there are several steps a person can take to increase the chances of landing a job.
Szlucha says the number one issue that people have when applying for a job is that they do not list their accomplishments clearly on their resume.
In addition, experts say that if you're out of work, a good way to find a paid job is to volunteer for a non-profit.
"You're going to work for free because you're going to help another organization, you're going to keep your skills relevant and keep your skills in the marketplace,? says Szlucha.
Szlucha says many non-profits often have a well connected board of directors that could lead to new job opportunities.
