Fairfield's chief building inspector is urging residents to research contractors before agreeing to a deal.Jim Gelleran says so-called contractors were telling homeowners that houses were condemned less than 24 hours after Sandy made landfall.According to Gelleran, all contractors must be licensed by the state before the town can issue a building permit.The state Department of Consumer Protection has a database that will allow neighbors to research contractors and see if they have a valid license.
