Not even a late-game rain shower could cool down the Falcons hot bats. Fairfield Ludlowe is headed back to the state title game after beating Newtown 6-4 Tuesday night in the Class LL softball semifinal.
"It's been our goal since day one: the road to uconn. It's kind of our little motto. We have seven seniors... one more game - hopefully we can get it done first time in history," Falcons head coach Lou Bunosso said.
Ludlowe trailed early, but came back to take the lead. It was 4-2 in the sixth inning when the falcons added some much-needed insurance. After hitting her third double of the game, Katie Tournas came home on a Rosanna Merturi RBI single to make it 5-2. The Falcons added another run on a Newtown throwing error.
"For the past three years, we've always had the goal to get there and we're just achieving our goals and we're gonna do it this year I feel it. I feel it," Ludlowe senior first baseman Ellie Gallagi said.
Ludlowe will face Southington Saturday in a rematch of the 2021 state title game. Time of the game is TBA.
