A group of moms in Fairfield is banding together to find ways to keep their children active while staying safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
When Katie Flynn isn't busy helping her little ones with their distance-learning, she's finding things for them to do around the house.
About eight months ago, Flynn and fellow Fairfield mom Kasandra Marshall started the Facebook group 'Parents of Fairfield Public Schools.'
It started out as a forum to share ideas on budget and PTA information, but has since transformed into a mom support group to navigate the new normal during the stay at home order.
"Basically anything we can think of as a community to share, just to keep everyone engaged and together. It's been a really great resource," Flynn says.
Flynn helped put together a School Food Drive Challenge as a way to stock Operation Hope's pantry.
Students from all schools in town have taken part.
She says she also plans on launching a pen pal program.
"We all want to put on the best face for our kids, but we need somewhere to go, to say, 'this is really hard and we're struggling.' But we can all get through it together. And I think if our kids see that, it's a really good message to give to them and to ourselves."
