A proposal to open a Chick-fil-A in Fairfield was recently submitted to the city’s Planning and Zoning department.
There was a lot of excitement when the popular food chain opened a Norwalk location, and people are just as excited for this potential location.
"We have two colleges in Fairfield, so I really think it's a good idea they put it here,” says Daniela.
News 12 is told the restaurant would be built on the property of the old Joe's American Bar and Grill at 750 Post Road. This business closed before the pandemic, and the new owners purchased the property several months ago.
The Chick-fil-A would also accompany several other fast-food restaurants in the area, like McDonald's, Donut Inn, Dunkin’ and Dutchess.
"It's good for people in Black Rock because the closest one I think is in Norwalk,” says Marilyn.
However, since the Fairfield location would have a drive-thru, the Planning and Zoning commission would need to vote on the proposal following a public hearing.
Some people in town believe traffic may be a big concern.
"The location is terrible for Chick-fil-A, because we love Chick-fil-A, but traffic will be horrible,” says one resident.
Daniela tells News 12, "The pile-ups are already steep here, but other than that, I don't think it's a bad spot where they [plan to] put it.”
To ensure traffic won't be an issue, the proposal states, "The site plan includes an entrance/exit layout designed to mitigate any issues associated with traffic movements…Chick-fil-A has vast experience managing the car stacking at its restaurants."
A date for the public hearing hasn’t been set as of now, but if approved, construction would begin this fall.
