Norwalk first responders and public works held a touch-a-truck and open house at the public works center Saturday.
Families were able to explore first responder vehicles, meet firefighters, police officers and city employees.
Donations of nonperishable food items were collected for the Open Door Shelter in Norwalk.
Officials say the event is an opportunity for residents to connect with those who keep the city safe.
"They see them and don't know what's involved – so this is just a great hands-on event," says Michelle DeLuca, deputy director of Nowalk Emergency Management.
According to DeLuca, over 800 people attended the event.
