Family of a Bridgeport couple killed in a car crash in Trumbull are mourning their loss Wednesday.
Police say 69-year-old Noelii Escarraga and 62-year-old Maria Escarraga died as a result of the crash on Old Town Road in Trumbull Monday.
Noelii Escarraga died Monday, and Maria Escarraga died on Tuesday, police say.
Cousin Nayla Seara tells News 12 the husband and wife had come to the U.S. from Colombia in search of a better life.
Seara says Maria Escarraga worked at Unger Industries in Stratford for years, and Noelii Escarraga was a baker.
"They believed in family. They were always together," Seara says.
The family has started a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for their funerals.
Seara says the double tragedy has cast a dark shadow over the holiday season, but she says her family can find comfort in knowing the Escarragas were together right up until the end of their lives.
