A Bronx family is searching for answers in the death of a 22-year-old man who died while serving time in state prison and was buried without family notification.
According to records, Lonnie Hamilton died on March 18 as an inmate of Marcy Correctional Facility in upstate New York. His family says they were never notified of his death.
After not hearing from Lonnie for over two months, the family began to worry. They searched the state Department of Corrections website and saw his status listed as deceased.
The Department of Corrections says several attempts were made to contact the inmate's next of kin, but the phone number listed was out of order. Lonnie's father says a phone call is not enough.
Now the family has hired attorney Richard Giampa to investigate Lonnie's death and seek answers.
Lonnie Hamilton was expected to be released from prison next year.
