Family members of a 21-year-old woman who died from a heroin overdose hope their story will help shed some light on the epidemic.
They say Erikka Lyn Hughes was found in her boyfriend's Bridgeport home on Friday and later died of complications from a heroin overdose. Family members say she was shy and timid girl, adding that they had no idea she had become addicted to the drug.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal says he will address the Senate over the next few days to call for action to reduce opioid deaths and addiction. He says he wants to use Hughes' story as an example.
Family members say they appreciate the support from the community. They have set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs.
