There are lots of events across Long Island this week, from World Cup watch parties to fairs and Independence Day celebrations.

“Just trying to stay hydrated the best you can…” said Elijah Massey, an employee running one of the games outdoors at the Empire State Fair. “But I know the next couple days are going to be crazy.”

People are fighting the heat the best they can. Misters, fans, cold drink stations and giant umbrellas helped people stay cool.

“We build around it,” said Bobby Belan, the general manager of Dreamland Amusement. “We love beautiful weather so any way we can help people enjoy it, it really brings everyone together.”

And the heat didn’t stop people from coming out to the World Cup watch party in Eisenhower Park. More than 7,000 people signed up to watch the game.

As the sun went down, the temperature became much more bearable.

But even during the day, park staff was making sure they kept people safe.

Darcy Belyea, the commissioner of Nassau County parks, recreation and museums, said they were keeping an eye on people.

“We have cooling stations. We have extra ambulances here. Cold water available, not only for sale, but also for anybody who needs it," Belyea said.

The hot weather isn’t going anywhere, and Belyea said they’re adding misters, tents, and emergency trailers with AC for their big fireworks event Thursday.

“We don’t like to cancel,” Belyea said. “We like to make accommodations so we can still continue on with all the free events that we do.”
